Some of us hear voices
some of us see signs
some may see the voices
others hear the signs
some of us make choices
where do we draw the lines?
Seeing, hearing signs and voices?
And which of us declines?
Snow-blind.
An arrow
its mirage
appears
beyond trees
above ground
above snow
hanging
there
light as air -
a diversion
beware.
Some follow the sign
some look for a word.
The blind see the sign
though the vision is blurred.
The sighted incline
to words, although slurred.
But signs by design
are replacing the word.

your play with words grabs and takes hold in this piece. and you still make so much sense.... outstanding!

Very encouraging. My thanks.
I love this. Who knew semiotics could be such a rich seam for poetry? :)
ReplyDeleteThe second piece I've read for this prompt. It's always amazing how wildly different people's reactions are. This is so much fun in the hearing, in spite of the slightly disturbing comment you're making on the unreliability of our senses and consequently of our interpretations of the world.
ReplyDeleteThis really sings along, Dave. So well composed.
ReplyDeleteExcellent Dave!
