(Do have a look at
Magpie Tales.)
A skeleton
of something like
a mini-whale
(minutum-
dwarfadon
to such as us)
that NASA found
(or so they said)
full many a mile
below the ground
in thermal ducts.
The whole thing sucks.
My grandma had
a score of these
(given her
by Thick Lips Fred
for spending so
much time in bed)
each with diamonds
in a cluster -
It is of course,
a knuckle-duster.
Twisting and turning and full of new views just like the photo.
ReplyDeleteI like the push and pull of this object and poem.
ReplyDeleteThick Lips Fred, eh? Clever one, Dave. I'm still giggling!
ReplyDeleteAt first glance I thought you had written knuckle-buster ... which it could be as well!
ReplyDeleteGreat Magpie.
Loved the answer at the end. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Greetings from London.
I liked this one, very much.
ReplyDeleteWhoah! Spoiling for a punch up Dave? LOL
ReplyDeleteI hope Ada doesn't see this!
ReplyDeleteEach scenario as surreal as the other; perfect for that darn object.
ReplyDeleteOf course it is! Now I can see nothing else in its curlicues. Art as a deadly weapon. Thanks for the heads-up on this one, Dave!
ReplyDeleteAs for me? I laughed outright. Thank you, Dave.
ReplyDeleteI can only admire your imagination and your humour, Dave, not to mention your poetry!
ReplyDeleteTabor
ReplyDeleteI felt I was wriggling to get out of it at first.
Kass
I agree. So did I.

My first thought was to use Buster as a name. Great minds..?

That's wonderful to hear. Thanks for the feedback.
Derrick
Mmm, thanks Derrick, but it is strange: the best solutions seem to come when I begin by being completly stumped.
Hahaha - that's a fun one! Nothing like what I came up with. Sorry that when you tried to 'follow' me last week Blogger wouldn't cooperate. Happy writing in 2011!
ReplyDeleteA puzzle, indeed.
ReplyDeleteMary

very tongue-in-cheek. nice!
ReplyDeleteDave . . knuckleduster was my early thought . . but when I made a copy, it didn't fit my knuckles - either hand!
ReplyDeleteGreat Magpie!
Shadow
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment.
Doctor FTSE
Ah! One can be too thorough with one's research perhaps! Lovely comment. Thanks.
Of course! A knuckle-duster! It's so obvious...
ReplyDeleteIngenious take. I really enjoyed it.
Well, duh, of course it's a knuckle-duster.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you think. : )
Wonderful imagination with such humour to boot. Love it!
ReplyDeleteHumble apologies to the three of you for having overlooked your comments.
ReplyDeleteAndreas
Seemed pretty clear to me! But I guess not everyone has my degree of familiarity with the things!
Thanks for the comment - and a very warm welcome to you.
