I had a mental picture once -
I must have been quite small -
of God (I'll call him that), but not
in mankind's image, not
an ancient, bearded guy.
A someone-thing in everything,
in everything on earth.
I think I didn't care too much
for this one God idea.
It didn't seem to fit
but all around me made it clear:
There's No One else in town.
So stuck with Him distributed
and every blob of Him wired in
to all the other blobs...
and this, please note, way way before
computing in a cloud was born.
I wonder then: could I not claim
some intellectual rights?

ha, intriguing view of god and i like the 'there is no one else in town' small view of him contrasting your cloud...so surely you should have some rights...we all want a right to ownership of god...smiles.

ReplyDeleteCompletely marvelous! I so get this one, and love it! I always thought the bearded guy in the big chair was Santa Claus. When I joined church, I discovered that Santa was in fact most people's understanding of the god they worshipped. But to me, God is a Spirit, not a person or thing. Thank you for sharing your poem.

ReplyDeleteI like your ideas within this poem very much....The Cloud, in computing terms and God, as we like to think of Him, are both 'somewhere up there,' offering security and an opportunity to unburden ourselves. Placing our trust in the unseen.
