Sijo

Round the aspen's trunk, the squirrel's double helix -- one up, one down,
like Aunt May's little house whose garden boasts the magic tree.
In my mind's eye the squirrel weaves the DNA I'm sure they share!

Written for dVerse Poets where Samuel Peralta is introducing us to this form of Korean Poetry.

  3. Observant comment on how the squirrels move. Yes, they go opposite directions when at play. Nicely Dave!

  5. DNA / squirrels scampering! Lovely!
First read through, my mind filled with many, second time through I imagined one running up and down. Depends on whether they possess the helix or move in that pattern while they make artful dance of the DNA they share with ... all of us?

  8. Ask anybody to explain what a spiral staircase is and they will immediately stir the air with their index finger.
For your poem we need two of those :-)

  14. Ha! This is the 50th anniversary of the discovery of DNA - isn't it? Something like that. Amazing - and a lot of fun here with the conjunction of Aunts and squirrels. k.
