Haiku from yesterday

Went AWOL yesterday. Doreen and I took ourselves off to RHS Gardens at Wisley, it being the time of year for them to host The Surrey Sculpture Societiy's Annual Sculpture Trail. What we had not realised was that it was also the first day of their Annual Flower Show, the two together amounting to a reasonably tiring, but very worthwhile, day. Some images of the sculptures will follow anon, but here for now are a few haiku that came out of it.
Like a breath exhaled
the butterfly has landed
the leaf is trembling

Earth spurts out of earth
out of sight and burrowing
life springs eternal

Small girl feeds the ducks
out of an enormous bag
half goes in her mouth

Among the grasses
Eve folded like a foetus -
a nut split open

Slate and iron trees
serrated edges saw-like
hint at their demise?

It was a beautiful day to visit Wisley and it was obviously inspirational. What a marvellous place to have an exhibition of sculpture. Lovely haiku - they're fun to write, aren't they?

Thank you. Liked them all, but loved the first, and the third. I am also looking forward to the sculpture images (and perhaps poems inspired by them?)

Lovely little words - loved especially the third.

I enjoyed the first and third greatly too. Sometimes it is good to go AWOL and find new sources of inspiration. Will return later to see photos.

Dave,

Your Haiku elegantly capture the feel, the smell and the atmosphere ater your garden visit.
I am sure that it must have been extra delightful, when one considers that we have had to wait until September, to see and feel this Indian summer.

Nice - I miss the days when you did a Haiku a day. They tell the story of the day in a few snapshots.

Happy to know you didn't intend to desert as a poet and, of course, you don't need others' permission to be absent.
Both of you tired but you enjoyed the day, good!
I like all your haiku:
first: pretty delicate.
second: spiritual.
third: funny.
fourth: natural.
fifth: sad.

Splendid and superb, in particular the one on the girl with that unique humour which only the thrre line work can encapsulate.

And what a coincidence, I have just put in my blog a poem where a butterfly appears.

Even on Haiku I can recognoze that surrealism and long history are wove with your words, by your own way.

They are fun, you are right. Thanks.

The Elephant's Child
I have the poems in mind - but that's as afr as they've got so far.

hyperCRYPTICal
Much thanks.

Brian
Gorgeous day. Yes, thanks.

Mary
Photos should be up tomorrow. Thanks for.

Eileen
Yes, absolutely - and amazingly, we had the gardens much to ourselve until after (a spledid) lunch, when they began to fill up.

Carl
Funny you should say that - I was only thinking the other day that I miss doing them. Maybe I should dedicate one day in the week to them?

Dulcina
Thanks for this. It's a really useful summing up!

Tommaso
Ah, the synchrosity of the web again. Thanks for your first comment.

haricot
Thanks a lot for saying so.

Cloudia
That IS good to know! Thanks.

Wonderful stuff, sir. I'm particularly fond of the first, but each one carries its own special image (small girl with enormous bag of corn, Eve folded up like a foetus in a nut). Thank you for sharing.
