Two years into the piano and not much further on I take up violin -- and what a difference! It sings! My instrument, no doubt! A maestro in the making, I am sure of it -- that is until my teacher, saintly, white haired, gentle, kind and ancient Janet Lawson, terminates the lessons on hearing that I practice it in bed. does she not know art can't be bound by rules? She's still will teach me the piano, though... happy in the thought, no doubt that given its great size and weight, there's little chance that I'll be tempted back to my Bohemian ways... .............................
A little belatedly submitted to Poetry Jam's prompt Breaking all the Rules

Bad habits...versus good art. An never ending battle.
...but, oh, the greatest teacher is naught but ourselves...and this...yes this is our school... the world we live in... art has no limits...it can't be bound to a single rule... Like what i said in my latest poem: 'art is a perpetual plague'...you can't resist from it...and i thouroughly believed all that lives by nature are artistic or at least a piece of art with different qualities of beauty possessed... smiles...
Hehe:D
Wonderfully amusing tale Dave.
Can't shake the 'what if...' vision though.
Keep seeing you in bed with a piano!!!
Ha, Dave....if you could play the violin in bed you definitely were a TRUE artist and should have been encouraged to continue to play!
The new prompt this week at Poetry Jam is Breaking Rules. You might consider linking this!
I do not consider myself an artist, but my approach to art I should feel free (artistically speaking, yes also I feel free with life and everything around me then it's the "Summum")
Ha! I hope you continued, much fun. K.
art cant be bound....i like that...whats wrong with practicing in bed...hehe...
hah. one good habbit replaces another. who had heard of that?
Art cannot be bound by rules...true. My son wants to become a professional without practicing!
I am practising the two most difficult Schubert Impromptu at present Dave - I can't go out because of the weather and by golly it is giving me something to think about.
What fun for a dreary snowy midweek day.
I'm getting my esses and cees in a twist with all that music.
Electric keyboard maybe?
I am a musician by trade--and I really loved this!!!
... practice makes perfect, no matter the instrument.
I solved all the logistic problems, flutes go anywhere.
Loved this! So what if it only sang in bed! I vote for the violin.
You met a maestro and had happy time to learn music, though it makes me smile to imagine that you practice violin in your bed.

I know... and I still don't see why they cannot co-exist!
Kelvin
You are so right. Especially with:-
all that lives by nature are artistic or at least a piece of art with different qualities of beauty possessed.

Ah, in bed with the piano, eh? The tragedy is, these days I could have had a keyboard!
Mary
Exactly what I thought! Some people are so hide bound!

Leovi
That'll do for me!

Not with the violin I didn't, alas. With the piano, though.
Brian
I didn't see anything wrong with it

I became quite infamous locally as a result - it's the English Puritan tradition, doncha know!

Hi and a warm welcome to you. Really good to hear from you and to know you've visited.
Helen
Thanks Helen, but in my case practice didn't make perfect -- or anything like!
Peggy
Good to know I would have had so much support - if only there'd been an Internet back then!
