A Word of Apology

to those who I might have neglected a bit of late. I have not got round to all the blogs as I would normally wish to do, and certainly have not commented on them all, the reason being problems with my browser. Indeed it seemed for a while that my computer was being hijacked. It worked perfectly until 11.30 each day. On the dot of 11.30 the cursor would change to the hourglass form and I could do nothing with it until mid afternoon some time, when it reverted to normal functioning, as though there never had been anything amiss. Then my security software alerted me to the fact that the browser was picking up infections. I junked it, tried the other (I had two) and the problem disappeared. It seems okay now, but I am keeping my fingers crossed.

For the same reason I have not been answering emails. Again, my apologies.

I shall try to catch up, but am facing something of a backlog. If anyone has any advice to give on the basis of similar experiences, it would be most welcome. Thank you all for your continued interest and support.

Hi Dave,

I know you haven't been neglecting me, so no worries!

I hope the problem doesn't recur but can't offer any advice I'm afraid.

Sorry to hear about the computer problems.....

Now if that happened to me at 11:11 instead of 11:30, I would have totally freaked out!

Hope you get things resolved soon.

You have my sympathy.....they can be so aggravating. Hope it continues to run smoothly.

Ghost in the machine Dave - I don't feel a bit neglected honest. Boo hoo!!

Dave, virus software sometimes causes more problems than it prevents. I don't have any on my computer, which is probably not smart at all.

Feel free to skip over any of my posts if they don't interest you. I know how hard it is to follow and comment on A LOT of blogs. ;)

I enjoy your comments when you leave them. Thank you!

Sorry about the problem Dave but I can be of absolutely no help. I am afraid that I am still at the stage where if something goes wrong I e mail my son along the lines of "the thingy doesn't work."
He has my pass word and sorts it out. I must say sometimes I get a blank page when I go to another blog and I find that disconcerting.

We have a free security software called AVAST...never have a problem with it!

I use AVAST too, plus a handy son like Weaver of Grass! Blogger still manages to be a pain occsionally, though, and I still have problems getting emails to you - so thanks for any visits and comments I've not acknowledged!

No need to apologize Dave, but it's nice to know--anybody who uses a computer for any length of time sure understands.

No worries, we all go through life's technological climb & crash every now and again. Hopefully this will not happen again, hijacking is in bad taste!!

Assumng you're using Windows, if this happens again, press Ctrl/Alt/Delete and when the window opens, click on Task Manager. Then click on the Processes tab and double click on the Mem Usage column to sort on that and see what is running. It seems odd to me that the problem goes away with one browser vs. another, but I rarely have virus issues because I stay pretty current on my anti-virus updates.

Feel free to email me (I'm not a wizard with this stuff, by any means, but I can generally putz around and figure things out). If you do decide to email, please do Ctrl/PrtScrn to grab a copy of the task manager screen and then paste it into the email. This will help me see what's going on.

Good luck!

That's funny Dave..I was kicking back with my husband watching a motorcycle stunt (this guy jumped a 2 story building- taken in L.Vegas I believe)..my husband was transfixed to say the least, ha.. THEN- his whole screen started moving up & down..everything- no matter where he went! It looked really bad but thankfully nothing happened to his computer! (he was on his laptop) This was something somebody sent him. He's got enough protection but you never know!

A month ago my laptop died, and I was completely cut off from email, etc., for a couple of weeks. I'm still playing catch-up.

My advice to you is: Prioritize.

Often things that seemed real urgent at the moment take care of themselves, all by themselves, while we're away. Benign neglect is often a good strategy. :)

Computer problems are a pain. How good that this one was so easily resolved.

As long as the computer didn't give you a virus Dave. :)

Don't worry Dave! I hope that your computer is now OK. Clear the temp files on your browser often that also helps.

I have an apple, pc virus's don't tend to cross the line.
The thing I'm trying to figure out is how to put pictures on my blog. Or music. I know you do that. Is there some book or online place to go to learn that?
Hope all the hang ups are smoothed out for you now.

As computer problems go, at least this was interesting and with a hint of mystery!

Don't worry, mate, come back when you're ready (or when your computer allows you to).

Greetings from London.

Everyone
My thanks to all. I really hadn't expected so many replies. I have made notes of Jeanne's and Art's, but really, so much encouragement from you all - worth a barrow load of technical advice, is that!

Hello there! A new blog experience to journey through ... I think I could spend the next weeks, if not months, reading all of your posts. You have extraordinary talent, Dave, and I am quite pleased to meet you.

Enthusiasts of the films of Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski (Blind Chance, Dekalog, The Double Life of Véronique, Three Colours Trilogy, etc) are invited to drop by my chatroom at the Brasserie Alizé on the anniversary of the director’s death, this coming Friday evening, 13 March 2009, from around 1800 GMT. Please pass on the invitation to others and hopefully see you there!

Ha, if you had a backlog before, you certainly have a worse one now. Mine makes the 27th post.

Many thanks for those kind words - would that I deserved them!

I have been seriously considering it!

Thanks for the invite.
