That being so, my son returned the ancient favour and took me to see them. That and Friday's Chinese nosh-up for Matthew's coming-of-age (how quaintly old-fashioned that sounds!) have taken their toll and the process of catching-up has flagged a bit. Neither is it about to get better, for we have to prepare for builders, electricians, decorators and other distractions over the next few weeks, so the time-squeeze is unlikely to go away any time soon. However, I will do my best.In the meantime, from yesterday (not for the purists), these:
The parked car cowers
like a frightened bird
beneath the hovering black cranes.
A pizza-pod
mistaken for a pasty.
My teeth unleash hot, molten cheese.
Climbing to our seats -
do birds get puffed
before they get their bird's-eye views?
Movement, repetitions, patterns:
something intangible
gets physical expression.
Twenty thousand rise expectantly
then sink down in despair -
the ball a foot too high.
Graffiti in the loo
foretold the final score -
and warned against the pizza pods.

I did enjoy this version of your day out - was the football itself less that entertaining, to make you dwell on pripheries, I wonder? LOL...
Believe it or not, Dave, I do have a football poem in my collection too, called 'Saturday's Heroes' and it rhymes and it got published. It's not really about football as football violence to be honest not that I know anything about either - I've never been to a football match in my life.
As for finding time to visit and comment - we all have the same problem, none of us have enough time. I freely admit that I can't cope with everything that's on my plate - we just do the best we can and hope everyone understands when we can't.
Poetry from experience - ideal!
I, too, have little time for blogging. I get up an hour early in the mornings to make the rounds. If I don't do it before the day begins, I often can't do it at all. The truth is, I doubt if anyone notices my absence.
Old birds like me certainly get puffed Dave!
I always enjoy footbal poems. When I ran my monthly gathering of performers and writers, we used to get a lad who was an Arsenal fan and he always brought poems about the Gunners. I liked the content, but as a Chelsea fan, I used to tease him about changing his alliance to the 'best team in London'.
Lovely post and catch up whenever you can. Enjoy your week.
Greetings from London.
I liked the introductory paragraph the best. It's all about bonding with the grandchildren. To me, it's the real coming of age, when the pay backs start. How very special that you got to stay healthy long enough and that your grandson took the time to do this. Marvelous! It's obvious he treasures these times with you. Now you need to write a poem about your grandson.
OHHHH You delight me so- love your sense- your observation- your measure! WONDERFUL!YOU!
This poem vibrates with the force of "The Present", a vivid snapshot of our day and age, its staring fist rushing by.
( and I am happy when once in a while I manage to be within your first ten comentators! )
Not the purists, indeed, Dave! And although I'm descended from Puritans, I'm not puritanical or a purist and I enjoyed this energetic, maybe even frenetic poem about soccer.
You left us all a reminder of these places, the writing in the loo and the unmentionable mess of the pizza pods.
hmm. questionable pizza pods. :)
I wanted to let you know about my blog address change. *sigh* If you're following me, my posts now won't show up in your feed, dashboard, sidebar, whatever. So please forgive me, but you'll have to change the address for my main writing blog, Where Romance Meets Therapy, to http://jeanniecampbell.blogspot.com. To do this, you have to "unfollow" me and follow me again. Sorry for the confusion!

Glad you enjoyed it, but numbers (poems, verses?) 4 and 5 were not peripheral, they are of the meat, the heart, the soul of the business!!
One peripheral aspect that occurred to me - as it invariably does - was that although the first half was more action-packed than the second, the second went ultra fast and the first seemed at least two halves long. Now why should that be? It should be the other way around. It is something I might have mentioned in my recent post when discussing the speed of time, but didn't think to.
Jim
I believe it, I really do! Or I did, until you said you'd never been to a footer match...
I do take your point about the time issue, but every now and then I get a guilt trip about not giving folk the consideration that their efforts merit.

Ah, good job the view from the top is worth it, eh?

Many thanks for that. I have to say that I have always found sporting poems the hardest to produce, even though my first published poem was about a massed-start (as we called them back then) cycle race, a parody of the Masefield poem about a fox hunt. It was published in a cycle club magazine. I still cringe at the thought of it.
Linda
Ah! You have a point, a good one, but then I'd have to write a poem about my daughter.. and the a... but yes, you're right in all you say.
Tommaso
This is fascinating. I had not the briefest thought that this was a poem. I jotted the verses down as a series of haiku, but you are not the firat to see them as a poem, and now that it has been said I am finding it increasingly difficult to see them as seperate entities.
Your comments are equally welcome wherever and whenever they come. They are always apt and useful - as this time.
Conda
Referring to my comments to Tommaso, I meant, of course, not for the Haiku purist!
Many thanks, though, for the kind comment.

Unforgettable!
Jeannie
Thanks for that. Will try to do the necessary.
I think you have captured the whole sporting event experience wonderfully.
Carl
Sometimes, the ones "not for the purists" are winners too. Such is the case here. You have managed to distil from a workaday, mundane experience, a poetic vision. Not too many could do that.
My husband is a fanatic for the Premiership and plays in the Fantasy League. If you want to talk mortification, I'll tell you MY favourite team: Newcastle!
Hi Dave,
I really like your reference to the car and black cranes and the pizza-pod, which I've never heard of! Lovely eee sounds in that even if the experience wasn't so lovely! Glad you enjoyed all the celebrations. Despite lack of time, the one thing you always seem to manage is individual replies to comments.
I'm not sure if you know the depths you're sinking to in your flirtation with pizza pods. Sheffield Wednesday fans love them. For that reason alone I'd go hungry rather than touch one. Stick to a good old reliable greasy chip butty. I enjoyed seeing the game through your eyes, regardless.
I identify with the nagging worry of keeping up with it all. Even though it is a pleasure, I do feel anxiety about falling so far behind.
I've never been to a football match, but I'm convinced that your poem captured both the main points and the essence!
I know exactly what you mean about keeping up. And a nice poem, again.
Carl
Thanks for a comment that made me smile a while.

Much appreciated comments.
Maybe we should commiserate with each other - though my teams further down the slippery slope than I think yours is likely to go - though all teams need that morsel of luck, I think.
Derrick
No, I had never heard of pizza pods, either. I'm wondering if they're an invention of The Saints. I would be very reluctant to give up on the individual replies. If folk take the trouble to comment, they are entitled to a reply.
Mairi
I truly did not know that. I shall avoid them like the plague in future!
Bee
Yes, my feelings are very much as you describe yours. I do feel a duty (too formal a word) to those who visit and comment. Thanks for yours.
Grandpa
Many thanks for that.
Linda Sue
Many thanks for visiting my blog and for commenting. And welcome!
I think the poems about events experienced with those dear ones in our lives are the most marvelous. Hope your son appreciated this commemoration of your day out together!
I'm more of a limerick writer, myself, and love to surprise friends with a personalized ditty.
Good luck with the building, electrifying, decorating, and being distracted. We're about to embark on reflooring the downstairs and getting new furniture. Fun, but time consuming!
Opulently I assent to but I think the collection should acquire more info then it has.

Good day, sun shines!
There have been times of hardship when I didn't know about opportunities of getting high yields on investments. I was a dump and downright stupid person.
I have never imagined that there weren't any need in big starting capital.
Now, I feel good, I begin to get real income.
It's all about how to choose a proper partner who uses your money in a right way - that is incorporate it in real deals, parts and divides the profit with me.
You may ask, if there are such firms? I'm obliged to answer the truth, YES, there are. Please be informed of one of them:
