There was a time when I would have heard both especially on a Sunday morning, sadly now lucky if I hear a single chirrup (though being in the heart of the City probably not a surprise)
Balloon squeeks! Now that's a sound I haven't heard in a while. I might just have to buy myself a balloon this weekend, so I can blow it up and that that air squawk!
Dave, they are having a haiku contest for an anthology at Soft Whispers. I think it runs for a bit and you can enter as many as you like. If you are interested, leave a message on my blog and I'll get you the url.
If my alarm clock was wired with bird sounds i would blissfully fall back asleep, bells might open my eyes but balloon squeaks would most asuredly get me out of bed and across the room in short order, hair on end!
All There is some mystification about balloon squeaks. I think that has been pretty general and was what first drew me to the item. I'm afraid I can't throw much light on the subject. The first four preferences, in order, were: bird song, church bells, balloon squeaks and Dogs barking. And yes, I guess they areakin to chalk on a blackboard, Tabor. I love the thought of girgles! Well, I'm with you there, Helen. Sounds good David. (pun not intended.) Thanks Ronda. Mayb e that's the point of balloon squeaks Linda - the rest of us couldn't see it. It's great you are Gwei. Thanks!

The survey was done on behalf of Pure Radio, presumably with their radio alarm calls in mind.
I love the way you add twists at the end of your Haiku. Of course, that is partly the intent of the form itself -- but you do it so well.
Balloon squeaks? Isn't that akin to chalk on a blackboard?
Hi Dave,
Yes, I'm wondering about balloon squeaks too!

coffee grinding whines
percolation burble steam
a gurgle of love
Dave this is refreshing (I'm reading this just out of my warm bed).. the only thing that awakens me is my internal clock - no sounds, thank you.
Gerry (your haiku is wonderful.)
I'm in Maine right now with the mourning doves. No squeaks here.
I'm wondering if Pure Radio gave multi-choices. It's hard to imagine scores of people spontaneously coming up with balloon squeaks.
Hearing her say.
"Good morning love."
Jim
Oh, no! Not balloon squeaks...can do.

Quite a masterful little gem, then the balloon squeaks REALLY put me THERE!
Bravo
Preferred wake up sound? Would have to be gentle voice saying, "Hello, my Love!" Anything else is for the birds....
definately!!!!!
Cloudia
I should be able to link those - perhaps in a haiku - but at the moment I can 't!
jinksy
I'd go along with that - must be a generation thing!

That's what I like - positivism!
