Life span three years maximum -
 yet they keep singing.

We should all be so focused on the brighter side of life.

I didn't know they get to live so long! This was wonderful. You seem to have an extra "three" in there.

The Beatles 'sang' it best ... 'you were only waiting for this moment to be free' .........

Yeah, I'm surprised by their life span myself.

Strong, enduring blackbirds,
keep singing, you'll carry us
from now to then.

BLACKBIRD

In the blinding sunlight
its blackness staring on the stone slab
over the iron gate, and behind
a branch in bloom. As in front of the Kaaba
you behold the inner white heart,
the grip of the spotless iris of the start
and the red beak,
the unshielded first impact
with the sky of things.

A belligerent lot, blackbirds. I see them fighting and chasing each other in the garden.
But their lyrical song makes up for all the aggression.

Do they really care
that their place on the hit parade
will be so short-lived?

I had no idea how long a blackbird lived for. Nice to learn something new :o)

Thanks for pointing that out. - A crude attempt on my part to double their life expectancy!

Dorraine
I only sing to myself - not a nice experience for others!

Helen
They did indeed.

Kass
Yes.

David
I was, when I came across it. It's actually given as 2 to 3 years. I'm ever the optimist.

Ronda
Or it's longer han flies because they sing.

Tommaso
Well said.
Enjoyed the poem. Thanks.

Friko
It's the artistic temperament, you know.

Meri
Not once they've got their platinums, I don't suppose they do.
