Thanks for your comment, Dave. This ia a pertinent one for me, as I don't like taking pills of any kind (apart from hayfever tablets, because -frankly- I couldn't last the summer grass-cuts without them), even paracetemol. I'll go as long as I can without resorting to opening a blister pack. My mother constantly tells me this is counter-productive and the sooner I take the tablet the sooner I'll feel better.
It's a vicious circle - we take them because they're there, and they're there because we take them.

A bitter pill, indeed.
Although we know the answers, we pay that someone to tell it to us.
Some people still look for the quick fix, Dave, sadly, and find it hard therefore to deal with the obstacles of life.
Oh, if only those responsible for the recession had been open to on-going therapy years ago.
Yes, we need to look within, not reach for medication. Haiku looks within.
Pills, pubs and frolicking across lush poppy fields.
Instant prosperity.

For many, the pills are causing the paranoia and anxiety, not relieving it!
From what I'm reading, senior citizens (using alcohol and drugs) are becoming a real problem.
Oh dear Dave, your haiku are getting slowly more depressing in nature - the recession bites indeed.
Not just pelicans,
Shellfish, whales, and dolphins drown--
Hope, too, drowns in oil.
Exactly. The first sign of something amiss, just take a pill. Then that pill causes side effects, just take an added pill. And on and on.
I have been thinking about this post since long now. I am almost losing someone close to me to such behavior. I think this is medicide!
I'm a bit tired of all the pharmaceutical ads on the American networks. A few proactive measures could reduce the demand.
