The Kiss : Gustav Klimt

This my response to The Gooseberry Garden's Poetry Picnic Week 2 prompt.

son of a goldsmith
gold was godly mystery
gold was decadence

icon-flat the paint
no shadows no perspective
just the flesh stood out

image as mirror
reflecting sacred passions
seen in human form

symbols amplify
transcend ephemeral form
feigned naivety

One of my favourite painters Dave - he certainly uses a lot of gold.

I must confess I have a teddy bear-like love/hate relationship with him. I've never really come to terms with his painting, though I accept that he's important for the influence he's had. He was also a great decorative artist.

Thanks for saying that. I was unsure about the phrase after I'd written it, but thought it was right in terms if what it meant to me.

Jingle Poetry
Much thanks for the encouragement.

Heaven
Thank you for both comments. Much appreciated.

Not even faux? Much obliged.

Windsmoke
Thanks Windsmoke, it is very helpful to receive such responses.

I think I'm with you on the first bit, will gratefully take your word for the rest. Much thanks.

Your words brought the painting to life, Dave. I must say I like Klimt, though prefer some of his other works over this one.
