Ha! Being an American perhaps, I happen to like Queen Elizabeth a great deal! I saw her mother once years ago when visiting England - I was a little kid, but it was such a thrill - crazy. I don't know about being close to God at coronation--k.
Even though I'm a Yank, I really, really admire Queen Elizabeth II. There have been enormous upheavals in the world since her coronation, but she's captained the ship with grace, integrity, and wisdom. Quite honestly, I can't imagine her not being there -- not that the succession isn't a good one -- it's just that she's been such a constant in my life.
I think we are a much more mixed community than we were 60 years ago, more secular, more cynical, more sceptical, less innocent. We hear more so we think we know more - I think we understand less. They were not the 'good old days' - just different times.
My goodness....60 years....where does the time go?
I do wonder if the current Archbishop would dare making a statement like that for the next coronation, whenever it will occur. Smiles.
smiles...yes, i wonder if a similar statement would be made today without sounding rather trite...or could be said of any governmental unit....
Interestingly her Majesty was presented with a grand gift a few days before that ie May 29th 1953 by New Zealander Hilary and Sherpa Tenzing!

I think your Queen is a great person. I must confess that what I have most appreciated in her is her love for horses and dogs.
I actually remember this. I was 9, home sick from school I think, and got to watch. After that I remember all the rage was paper dolls of Queen Elizabeth with her glorious gowns. Fun memory. Amazing woman.
Close to the Kingdom of God? Not in my eyes - but the ArchBishop would have to feel that way.
Monarchs do have an awful job though, and Elizabeth has performed hers consistently and with integrity. Just the same, I would rather surrender our ties to you, and hope that we become a republic - sooner rather than later.
Your country has a constant in the monarchy. The ceremonial, legislative and 'figure head' change here in the US. it feels like constant chaos. With Queen Elizabeth in place for 60 years you had had a queen during some of the most difficult and changing times ever. I admire the system and your Queen.
Thanks everyone.
The sentence that most stood out in my mind after reading your comments was: We hear more so we think we know more.
Interesting to see how of one mind - and complimentary re the Queen - you all were. And that most were non-Brits.
I have to confess that I find it difficult to see meaning in the Archbishop's remark, either in the context of those times or now.
All-in-all, your replies have made it an interesting exercise, I think
Haha:D...I was in the World of Spirit then!
Wish I'd been here to see it though. I heard many times from my parents what a fabulous spectacle it was.:)
