The Catwalk Queen

The catwalk queen
with perfect poise
each movement for
a moment poised
soft music plays
it might be dance
were not her steps
each one the same
choreographed
it has the grace

but is not dance.
Insouciant
within each skin
so lightly shed
dispassionate
with each new slink
the hundred eyes
that follow her
are led the same
old dance again.

This is my contribution for today to Writers Island's NATIONAL POETRY's Free Writing Month.

I see this as a condemnation and outing of the monotony of fashion, never changing, yet we believe it does.
Great words.

Same old same old - I'm glad I can't dance!

well, I wish I could dance: never have been able to direct my feet or the rest of me, and now struggle to stand up - but the insousiance is perfect and even if the 'fashion industry' seems full of inane frippery - for some it is also poetry, albeit a very expensive kind and not for me either ...
a graceful poem Mr King

Hey there.

I have a huge imagination. So while I read your piece of art, it got me picturing a scene.

I find them hard to look at. No amount of slink or shimmercloth counteracts my repulsion at their superficiality.

You write it well, DK.

Methinks you and I were both dancing today! How odd is that? LOL

You have really brought the scene alive, Dave. The rhythm of the poem portrayed the 'walk' well!

Great description of the catwalk, Dave. It does have a repetitious, artificial feel to it. As one who can't dance AND is terribly clumsy as well, I would settle to be able to do either!

It's amazing, the rhythm and intensity of this poem. And the coinsidence concerning the cat's soul in relation with my post.
I had many cats in my life. For some time I had five.
By the way in the preface of "The Famished Road" by Ben Okri the divine nature of cats is prodigiously revealed.

Perfect poem about the catwalk queens, Dave, poor girls are starving themselves to death.

Excellent way of putting it.

Stan
Me, too. I once (in my teens) went to a dance class. They played "The Twelfth Street Rag". I left.

Isabel
Good point, well made. Thanks for that.

Honest Abe
Much thanks.

HalfCrazy
That's one hell of a boost for me! Shall we be seeing any of the results?

Ron
It's the attitude - or is it the atmosphere? - that repels me.

Jinksy
Odd, but it makes us even, I guess!

Mary
Hi Good to have you visiting. And your comment. Thanks.

Lolamouse
Sounds like we have a lot in common!

Tommaso
I've always taken my understanding of cats' souls from the Egyptians.

Mary
Thanks a lot for that. Interesting remark!

Pamela
That's the bit (well, one bit) I don't quite understand.
