Lake Windermere
Towards the end of January I showed some of my earliest photographs, taken in my late teens or soon after, which I had come across in the process of trying to re-organise my work space. They depressed me slightly, if the truth be known, because I thought them better than I am achieving now, notwithstanding the fact that I now have much superior equipment.
Here I am trying to correct the emphasis. This is one of my earliest watercolours. I don't feel the same way about it, though it is not a finished painting, but a sketch from my sketch book.

Hi Dave - I love the color in this. I wish my earliest watercolors looked this good!
Hello there,
A sketch? Not finished? Your watercolor is a thing of beauty ~ my favorite medium.
Beautiful colors there & a lovely change in texture between the foreground trees & the clouds & water!
Sketch books are - in my opinion - every bit as important as diaries for telling one about one's past life.
Even as a copy image for a blog post, the movement in this is wonderful. I would be very proud of it if I was you.
I've a soft spot for paintings and find this one very good. May i be so bold as to suggest that you a step back look at this painting from a different point of view :-).
This is an early work? I think that I would be satisfied if it were the sum total of a life's artistic experience . . .
Especially love the dramatic sky reflected in the water.
Beautiful, you are a man of many talents! Yes, be proud. Love the colours on the lake.
How exciting that you have found the earlier photos and now the sketch book.
It is really interesting to look back in time.
cheers, parsnip

Thanks, but I think the camera may flatter a little.

Yes, mine too, but I find it the most difficult one.

Another reason it's my favourite medium: you get credit for the happy accidents! Thanks John.

I absolutely agree with you. Sketches - even those by some of the geatest masters - are often superior in many ways to the finished painting.

Thanks. A lovely comment.

Mmm, I think I see what you're getting at. Thanks for the suggestion.

It's an early watercolour, not an early painting.
Thanks a lot for the comment. Good to have you visiting.

Hi and many thanks. Much appreciated.

Surprising what you unearth when you start to clear up! Grateful for your comment.
