Perfection in the potency of this Haiku! "Needy" monks - chuckle. Brings to mind a visual of secretive, wild behavior behind closed walls that we never get to see or hear about.
I know hunners of people who drink the tonie all the time. It's the tonic of Glasgow youth, Glasgow neds, and general malcontent. Personally, I've only ever drank it a few times, and it is so sickly sweet, I really can't handle it.
Big in our news recently, for the buckfast bottle is used as a weapon of assault. I've had one over my head myself actually, couple of stitches, few years ago.
Those Monks, can't hold them responsible...maybe God? ;)
Me too! I love this! Every Christmas I order fruitcakes for family members from a monastery in Berryville, Virginia ... Your Haiku has provided me with a 'wonderful' image of these monks as they pour brandy on their masterpieces ........
dave a sniff of that would be good for me right now. i love the trappist beer from a small nastery in holland. those boys know what the lay person requires when the spiritual world is at more than arm's length!!!! steven
I'm not sure what buckfast tonic is but it sounds pretty potent if the minks can enjoy it and it's too strong for the rest of us.
Wonderful images here in the words. they contrast the secular and the Religious, heaven and hell, spiritual and ordinary and all that awesome stuff. Thanks Dave.

Dave, years ago I wrote this:
Autumn's new wine, "Novello",
the velvet stepping forward
of tiger's paws.
I'd want to save that wine for myself too:-)

Love this. Have been writing haiku poems in the evenings, to record my day. It's very soothing.

If I were a monk, I'd be needing some tonic wine.
Nice, Dave

I must admit I thus indulged myself, Kass,
although mainstay was intended to apply to the coffers,
I'll join you Ronda!
Interesting thought McGuire, I suppose the buck stops with Him! Responsible but not culperable, eh?
Love it Helen!
