Haiku #64

How music moves us -
to what effect, by what means -
two distinct questions.

I find these days with my hearing problem Dave, that words move me much more than music.

Great observation. Music stirs the body and the emotions.

By any means!

Some means have more effect--at least on me.

I have always been moved by music. You are right... How it moves and what it moves us to are very different.

It is a whole language I am fascinated by, but have little skill in.

Much like the sounds of the brook and the forrest... I can appreciate them and be moved by them, but not understand them at all.

Another wonderful and thought provoking Haiku... My but you can do much with 17 syllables my friend.

Cheers
Carl

I am working on that.
I'm reading Musicophelia by Oliver Sachs. Could be brain activity separate from all other functions, and engaged in by all cultures. Which does not explain the anthropologic reason for it's development or contribution to the survival of the species, unless it serves as a community builder, as does poetry. Then the question of the soul, the imagination, the art for art's sake.....

All
You are correct, of course: it is all in the means.
What I meant was that the effects have been variously described, but the HOW reamins very much a mystery.
I must try to get Musicophelia.

Apologies, I had not seen all the comments - only the latter ones!!
Appreciate the haiku,
and yes, Weaver, I do understand. I, too, have a hearing problem which prevents me enjoying some music as I used to.

Thanks everyone.
