Wry Smile - and Haiku #250

Two articles together in my newspaper this morning: one reporting that if you don't sleep well you're for an early death - especially men; the other with the information that drinking one cup of coffee every day will see you through a long and healthy life. I could not help but wonder what if you sleep badly and drink a coffee every day... what then?

Their plan: a wrapper
to stop your choc' bar melting --
even in the sun.

I find these generalizations on how to live a long life by avoiding or taking on certain behaviors and foods far too reductionist, but like star signs they're fun to think about.

They tend to drag a wet blanket over everything including molten choc bars.

Thanks, Dave.

It's a bright start for an early morning...to think about length of your lifetime and how one is reducing/increasing it!
You can take precautions but nevertheless the choc-bar always melts.

I thought coffee was a no no.

Good lord, Dave, that's me. I always have an uncomfortable bed and have exactly one cup of coffee a day. What's going to happen?

Poor sleeping habit + coffee = living forever! Negative is canceled by the positive?

Hope so.

Dear Dave, destiny is the matter in my view, it's both the film director and main actor... sleeping, coffee etc. are just extras...

One day i bought a mars bar threw it on the dash board of my car and forgot all about it and this was in the middle of summer when i came back to eat it, it was as flat as a pancake but didn't leak all over the dash board so i grabbed a spoon opened it up and had a feast and it was still yummmmy.

From Therese B -- Oh, goodness. The ideas that entrepreneurs come up with! Probably a wrapper that prevents chocolate from melting in the sun will have to be made from rare earth metals that will require new mines which will contribute to global warming which will just make the chocolate melt anyway!

I agree. I don't know whether to laugh or get angry when I read them. Mostly they are merely statistical, and showing a connection doesn't necessarily show a causal connection.

Yerah, who wants to think about that? Exactly!

Me too!

Ever the optimist - I like it!

Extras? Extras can make a film!

Brave, it is you are!

Mmmm? I did read somewhere that spider silk is the most thermal insulating stuff known to man. Maybe they could use spiders' webs...?

Life certainly is jittery. No doubt about it.

You: immortal!

Oh well I've had it then. I hardly ever sleep and I do enjoy a double espresso now and then, have tried cutting them out for weeks - makes not a jot of difference still don't sleep. So many things good and bad, I've stopped reading them all now, just too confusing. Still I do know two people in the village well into their nineties, managing for years on three to four hours per night - so perhaps I have a chance. Keep Well Dave.

You will be one that proves (ie tests) the theory.
Don't worry, it's not even that, merely a statistical conjunction!!

I think the juxtaposition of the two articles and your apposite comment are brilliant, hilarious.
A haiku on the theme?
